Catalogue Note

Thiem (see Literature) notes the debt of the present composition to a painting of the same subject commissioned by the Prince of Liechtenstein in the 1680s from dal Sole's master, Lorenzo Pasinelli.  Also evident, is the influence of Guido Reni, whose classicizing treatments of the Magdalene must certainly have been known to dal Sole.
