Archaeological-Revival Micro-Mosaic Necklace, circa 1870

Estimate
15,000 - 20,000 USD
bidding is closed

Description

Decorated with micro-mosaic pendants of doves and flowers against a deep red ground, alternating with triangular pendants of blue and white tesserae, length 16 inches.

Condition

Good condition with light wear and minor discoloration to the mounting commensurate with age. The mounting is composed of mixed metals, chiefly copper (42%) silver (39%) and gold (10%). Approximately half of the micromosaic pendants that are decorated with birds are missing a few of the deep red tesserae but, in light of the age of the necklace, the micromosaics are in relatively very good condition and the losses not readily apparent. The blue and white micromosaics maintain only minute losses.
