Description
- length 4 ft. 4 in.
- 132.4 cm
the needlework with 18th century petit and gros point panels within 20th century panels. Losses to needlework.
Condition
The settee in overall good condition, the legs of mellow color with usual small abrasions and rubbing to carving. The legs and frame a little loose overall and requiring re-gluing at the joints. The upholstery in overall poor condition with loose springs and webbing and would require complete replacement. As noted in the catalogue, the needlework has some 18th century elements, the surrounds probably dating from the 20th century. The central areas to the seat and to the back have old repairs overall, with some later areas of loss and some splitting overall, and with some extensions to the original panels at the extremities which have now faded. The surrounds are in basically good condition, but with some splitting overall particularly on the seat and some areas of loss. Some of the tasseled fringe is lacking overall. Requiring sympathetic restoration overall.
