molded around the lower body with blue-feathered rocaillerie issuing scroll handles at the sides and painted on the front and reverse of the body with floral sprays. Some restoration.

Condition

The lower body is oversprayed, indicating a restored crack that extends at least half way around the body. There are numerous restored chips around the rim. The restoration is very well done.

Catalogue Note

This model is taken directly from a Marieberg faïence original dating from about 1750-70, an example of which is illustrated along with a Chinese Export counterpart by John Goldsmith Phillips, China-Trade Porcelain, p. 158, fig. 51 and p. 77, pl.11. Three famille-rose examples of this model, Property of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, were sold at Sotheby's, New York, January 23, 1992, lots 369 and 370.
