A CHINESE EXPORT FAMILLE-ROSE PART DINNER SERVICE FOR THE SWEDISH MARKET CIRCA 1750-60

each piece painted with a gilt foliate monogram surrounded by floral sprays and a chain border, comprising: two 13 1/8 -inch meat dishes, two sauceboats, two salts, six dinner plates and six soup plates.  Some restoration, minor chips and fritting and wear to gilding.  18 pieces.

This service was comissioned by George Seton, who was born in Scotland in 1696 and emigrated to Stockholm, Sweden in 1718.  He made a living as a merchant and was ennobled in 1785 together with his sister's son Alexander (1738-1814) who became Baron Seton and inherited the Ekolsund Estate from his uncle upon his death in 1786.
