- each 30 cm. high, 40 cm. wide.; 11¾ in., 1ft. 3¾ in.
the two maidens representing maritime cities or nations, each seated in a boat, one figure with a trident and fishing net, the other figure holding a sceptre, at her waist a pelt, at her feet a large fish and upturned cornucopia, each on associated Siena marble bases
Condition
Colour of bronze less greenish, more brown patination and much more attractive than in catalogue photograph. Superb gilding casting. The maiden representing Russia has a foundry mark "RSBO3". Marble base of the maiden representing Russia restored. The figures are Britannia and Russia. Impressive and in overall good condition.

It is possible that these figures represent Great Britain and Russia, the pelt and fish possibly symbolising the Russian bear and the sturgeon. They are likely to be reductions of full-scale sculptures originally commissioned for a bridge or similar piece of riverside architecture.
