'The female figure occupies a place in his art not altogether dissimilar from the place of animals in the animal-and-interlace art of the Celts'. 1
Richard Larter was born in 1929 and studied at the prestigious St. Martins School in London. After spending sometime in Algiers he arrived in Australia in 1962 with his wife Pat – who become his most popular model over the next 50 years.
Larter’s work draws from the popular culture, juxtaposing pornography alongside Disney characters and political identities of the day. Never scared to shock or upset his audience Larter has maintained his intolerance to the sexual hypocrisy of modern day society.
