Catalogue Note

Hugh Sawrey was a first rate horseman, a skilled drover and shearer, on the sheep and cattle stations of Northen Queensland and the Northern Territory, before turning his hand to painting. A self taught artist, he painted his experiences as seen in this major work. He was a member of the shearing team which visited  Bindi-Bango, a cattle station south of Mitchell in Western Queensland. It is believed that the figure to the far left of the composition is a self portrait.
