Kantilla's commenced her artistic career in the public domain as a sculptor when she moved from Bathurst Island to her mother's country at Paru on Melville Island in the early 1970s. Her earliest recorded works, however, date back to 1946. In 1985 she moved to Milikapiti (Snake Bay, also on Melville Island) where she took up painting on canvas and paper. She is currently the subject of a major retrospective exhibition at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia.
