Catalogue Note
This bold and striking work was painted in the first half of the 1990s, considered by many to be the period of the artist's most powerful and commanding canvases. Multjintja in Lake MacDonald is the site depicted in this painting. Characteristic of paintings associated with the Tingari ancestors, the imagery is highly esoteric and minimal. The squares refer to men and the central line of large dots, Ngankari Tjuta (many clever men). All the men are said to be carrying spears.
This painting is sold with an accompanying Papunya Tula Artists certificate and an Alcaston House Gallery invitation to the solo show where the painting was purchased (on which a detail of the work appears).
