Cf. Caruana, W., and N. Lendon (eds.), The Painters of the Wagilag Sisters Story 1937-1997, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, 1997, p.106, pl.58 for a closely related example from the Louis A. Allen Collection in the Art Gallery of Western Australia. The painting features an object used in rituals concerning the Wagilag Sisters. Dhatangu painted this object featuring a face intended to be a portrait of his father, Yilkari Kitani. The figure is flanked by images of caterpillars and sand palms.
