Catalogue Note
Cf. Davies, S., Collected 150 years of Aboriginal Art and Artefacts at the Macleay Museum, University of Sydney, 2002, p.67 for three closely related examples dating from the 1920s.
Davies writes of these examples: '(These) points are unique to the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Pressure flaked on both sides, the edges may be serrated. Made originally from stone, contact with Europeans led to the points being made from bottle-glass and other European materials such as ceramic telegraph insulators and Ponds Cold Cream containers. Mainly hafted as spear points, they were also used for cutting body scars and other ceremonial purposes'. (ibid)
