Catalogue Note
The central image on the shell is a possum holding a traditional shield of the Broome region. According to Kim Akerman: 'The wave like structures at either side are spirit reefs that can be called up in dreams to harm one's enemies, and the chevrons at the base belong to a class of marking carved on artefacts to give them spiritual power.'
