Catalogue Note

Henri-Frederic Iselin (1825-1905) studied sculpture in the atelier of Rude and thereafter for a short time at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. His oeuvre primarily consists of state commissions for marble busts and statues of prominent members of the political and arts fraternities. Allegorical and mythological groups such as the present work appear comparatively rarely, but subjects such as Le Genie du feu and L'Elegance are listed in his oeuvre.
A similar group can be found surmounting a fountain at the Santo Cristo Square, Rio de Janeiro.
