the open spring brass movement with steel pallets and balance wheel connected to a horizontally mounted 6-inch terrestrial globe signed Joslin's containing the latest discoveries, Boston, Gilman Joslin 1860, drawn and engraved¿ by W.B.Annin, attached to a two¿x 12 paper hours ring revolving against a fixed pointer, lacking the minutes sector, the case with broken-arch moulded cresting, turned¿ giltwood central finial and pendant acorn side finials, the rectangular moulded plinth concealing the movement and with original printed paper label on the interior inscribed Timby's Solar Timepiece, Patented 1863, No.151, with later ¿plain inspection door at the front

Catalogue Note
Theodore Timby of Baldwinsville, New York patented this clock in 1863. The clocks were made under licence by Dr L.E.Whiting of Saratoga Springs, approximately six hundred examples were manfactured. The half-completed pieces were shipped to Boston where Gilman Joslin, a globe maker, added the globe.
