Description
crossed swords in underglaze-blue and incised 'V' on the inside of footrings
- 29cm.; 11½in.
decorated in the manner of Hörold with oriental and european scenes, the centre painted with three chinoiserie vignettes of orientals at various pursuits in elaborate scrollwork cartouches of Böttger-lustre with a gilt diaper pattern enclosing puce camaieu harbour scenes, the rim decorated with three scrollwork medallions on Böttger-lustre enclosing Kauffahrteiszenen alternated by horizontal chinorserie cartouches on gilt diaper and scrollwork pedestals, the reverse of the plates with three loose sprays of Kakiemon flowers
Condition
One plate with small chip to foot rim (c. 0.5cm), both plates with wear to gilding.
