Catalogue Note
The Service de table à marly d'or was begun in 1805 and continued in production until the restoration of the monarchy in 1814. A variety of subjects was depicted, including landscape scenes, cameos, floral motifs, historical and genre scenes, though all have burnished gilt rims with foliate borders. The service was delivered in stages once a sufficient number of plates had been assembled, and gifts from the service were made by Napoleon in 1809 to King Friedrich August I of Saxony, and in 1812 to the Austrian ambassador, Prince Schwarzenberg (see Samuel Wittwer, Refinement & Elegance Early Nineteenth-Century Royal Porcelain from the Twinight Collection, New York, p.246, cat.no.60).
