Description

  • crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, gilt numeral 55. to cover, the box with impressed Dreher's mark for Gottfried Bergmann
  • 12.7cm., 5in. across
the box painted with a continuous Kauffahrtei scene of merchants and their wares in an estuary setting with numerous ships in the distance, the cover with two similar scenes, enclosed by a gilt scrollwork border and surmounted by a rabbit finial (small flat rim chip to cover, some scattered minor flaking to gilding)

Condition

Cover has a ¼in. shallow chip to the edge and some very small patches of wear to the gilding. Box - good condition. There are two very minor firing hair cracks across the foot rim, otherwise in good condition.
