- Shen Shichong
- COUNTRYSIDE
- ink and colour on silk, album of twenty-four leaves
Signed Shen Shichong, dated ren xu, 1622, summer, inscribed, and each leaf with one to two seals of the artist. Annotation by Japanese connoisseur Namekawa Toorn (early 20th Century), signed Danru Huachuan Da, dated ding si, 1917
Condition
- Overall in good condition for its age.
- Illustrated colours are slightly more intense than that of the actual piece,
- A narrow stripe of light foxing on the top margin are found on five of the leaves, minor stain spots and light water markes are also visible on some of the leaves, as can be seen in the illustration.
- Some leaves bear pinhole silk loss and one leaf with a narrow strip of silk loss (2.9 cm long).
- The inscribed leaf, top margin was accidently cut off in the illustration.
- Nicely maintained in old mounting, which at least can be dated back to the early 20th century.
