Description

of rectangular octagonal shape with silver handles and on four grotesque masks and lion-paw feet, each panel intricately carved with different scenes of daily life featuring figures and pavilions in extensive landscape and garden settings, the hinged cover with a monogram and opening to reveal a removable tray with lidded boxes and various ivory fittings



 

Condition

The box is in good overall condition. There are very few very minor losses to the more exposed parts of the carving. The joined areas between two small corner panels of the cover have been fixed at a later date. The lid is very slightly warped. The colour is of a slightly warmer, creamy tone than the illustration suggests.
