Description
densely carved using the full length of the horn tip with lingzhi fungus, gnarled pines, pomegranates and peach trees rising from rockwork at the triangular tip and interspersed with four figures including a sage holding a double-gourd, with a border of climbing vine at the rim, the interior of the simple hollowed cup with a sitting frog, carved wood stand
Condition
The carving is in good overall condition with the exception of several short (circa 2cm.) age cracks around the rim; a repaired 10 x 5mm. rim chip; light rubbing to a 15mm. section of the rim; light rubbing to the head of the frog to the interior; a 7 x 4mm section of loss to the carving at the tip of one of the Sage's hand held implements; and other very minor scratches, bruises and nibbles to the carving. It should be noted that the horn is of a slightly darker honey tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
