Description
the wide caned seat of rectangular form supported on a pierced waist with panels enclosing confronting phoenixes above the apron carved on all four sides with pairs of confronting dragons in pursuit of a flaming pearl, supported on cabriole legs issuing from the mouths of beasts terminating in claw feet grasping balls, all set upon a stretcher, the removable back panel with a central pierced panel enclosing a full frontal dragon riding above waves and encircled by dense clouds, flanked by two smaller panels similarly carved, all below a crest of confronting dragons centred on a shou medallion and flanked by addorsed dragons on the side, the side panels similarly carved with pierced panels of dragons on a cloud ground
Condition
The overall condition is very good, with an attractive finish overall and minor replaced elements. The two back panels flanking the central back panel are possibly replaced with hongmu panels. The central back panel has a long vertical split. There is a long split to the proper back right leg and right front padded foot under the stretcher is restored.
