Description
the stand modeled in the form of a small altar table, carved on top with a large landscape of a gathering of scholars enjoying a day on a lake, one seen fishing off a boat, another boat with scholars drinking wine and the third group singing and playing a flute, all surrounded by pines, willows and a rocky landscape, the water-ground finely depicted as tight S-curves, the sky-ground defined as diamond diaper, framed on the narrow sides with upturned edges carved with addorsed qilongs with intertwining tails, supported on four bracket legs similarly carved with qilongs
Condition
The black underside of the table has been relacquered to consolidate old cracks. There are cracks around the joints to all four legs to the base of the top of the stand. One leg has a minor 7 cm chip with another minor chip on the top of the stand upper left hand corner. On the lower right hand corner there is are a few cracks, but it does not appear that the corner has been restuck. The top has two old age cracks, one on the far left side and the other on the far right side. The cracking appears to be stable and does not appear to pose a major structural issue. The overall condition of this piece is very good.
