Description
of domed form rising from steep rounded sides to a short waisted neck, painted in bright enamels on the exterior with two branches of flowering roses in iron-red and copper-red enamels, all stemming from long prickly stems, all against an unctuous even milky-white ground, the base with a three-column mark
Provenance
Sotheby's Hong Kong 25th April 2004, lot 46.
Condition
There are two very fine original kiln cracks beneath the glaze of the waterpot which angle from the base up to the side, the longest of which is 2.5 cm. There is also a very faint crackle which runs horizontally across one third of the pot's diameter, but this does not go across the body. There are of course expected small pinholes to the interior of the waterpot, but nothing on the exterior which has been very well fired. The enamels are even more brilliant than as illustrated in the catalogue photograph.
