Catalogue Note

Roland Mellan, a furniture maker since 1994, uses multiple metals - tin, aluminium, steel, copper - to re-invent the use of marquetry in furniture design. In his Marseille workshop, by the complex and pain-staking layering of enamelled finishes, in this case light green, dark green, purple, with the effects of both matt and polished brass, Mellan achieves a dazzling surface which is smooth to the touch yet stimulating to the eye.
