Gaetano Pesce for the Chiat Day Agency

In 1995, Pesce was commissioned to create a 'Virtual Office' for The Chiat Day Agency, one of the largest advertising agencies in the USA. The project was described at the time as 'the furthest flight from the rectangle ever achieved in office design' (Architectural Review January 1995). Restricted by a tight budget, Pesce used inexpensive materials (polyesters, resin and rubber) to create a colourful and playful interior. This unique piece incorporates a self portrait. This motif was repeated in 'Self Portrait with Chairs' at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, (November 18th 2005 - April 9th 2006), in which the contours of Pesce's facial profile are lined with many small resin chairs.
