with articulated arms and removable front torso opening to reveal inner organs and phoetus beneath, with old label underneath inscribed: FRANCISCI MAVRICEAV / Bon den ßufallen ß Krantheiten / der Sibivangern ßeiber / ...ud kindbetterinnen / 1680, within black painted wooden box
Condition
Overall condition very good apart from the left hand where the little finger and third finger finger have been reattached and have possibly been replaced.

The Frenchman Francois Mauriceau (1637-1709), was one of the leading obstetricians of the seventeenth century. His writings on childbirth continue to have an influence in obstetrics to this day.
