Condition
Good overall condition. The bottom of the metal mount has been refreshed with a layer of green paint to match the vessel. The vessel has evidence of a very careful restoration to the ceramic with areas of retouching to the decoration, notably to the underside around the pewter mount. The pewter mount shows evidence of having been removed and re-attached to the vessel.

Catalogue Note
Most of the models produced by Walter Scherf & Co. are assumed to be designed by Scherf himself. We know that models bearing the mark of the Nürnberger Handwerkkunst, Bayerisches Gewerbemuseum are a product of Scherf's studies at the design program offered there. In particular from 1903 to 1907 he was enrolled in the master classes of both Richard Riemerschmid and Paul Haustein.
