Condition

Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is far brighter in the original work where many of the colours are fluorescent, particularly the vertical orange and green stripes to the left of the composition. Condition: This work is in very good condition. The canvas is quite slack and there is a stretcher mark along the top edge. There is a line of stable feather craquelure to the bottom of the yellow paint in the lower left quadrant. There is very light wear in places to the turnover edges. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.

Catalogue Note

I like making relations between the elements in the paintings you wouldn't expect. Like painting the left of the painting with expensive colours and the right of the painting with cheap colours. They will always be related to the other works though, because in the others it is the same situation: I start with something and then I move and push it from one side to the other." (Albert Oehlen quoted in: Exhibition Catalogue, London, Whitechapel Gallery, I Will Always Champion Good Painting, 2006, inside back cover)
