Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is much brighter and more vibrant in the original work, particularly the red background. The image has been cropped slightly at the extreme edges of the paper where it meets the board. Condition: This work is in very good condition and is protected beneath an even, light varnish layer. There are small nail heads to all four corners of the board and in various places along all four edges, all of which are original to the work. There are several pin-head sized tiny spots of media accretion most notably beneath the nose of the figure. There is a tiny loss to the red paint beneath the end of the figure's pipe and another small loss at the bottom of the lower left quadrant in the middle square of green paint. There is no retouching apparent when examined under ultra-violet.
