Catalogue Note

As Francis is a brilliant colorist, like all true artists he draws directly on nature for his sources of inspiration. But his debt to nature is pure draughts of colors which produce forms on his canvases, rather than forms from nature reproduced on his canvases by means of color and light. This is the essentail nature of Francis's naturalistic abstractions.
