Condition

Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is slightly deeper and richer in the original. The catalogue illustration fails to capture the varied texture of the paint surface. Condition: The work is in good condition. There is a light intermittent horizontal rub mark (13 cm approx) extending into the composition from the centre of the left extreme edge and a further faint horizontal rub line to the lower part of the left extreme edge. There is a crack running down from top to bottom from the centre-right side of the upper extreme edge, with a tiny associated loss towards the top and a few further minute pinprick sized losses elsewhere along the crack which is inherent to the media and the artist's working process. There is a further tiny nick to the centre of the upper extreme edge and a minute pinprick-sized paint loss to the top of the grey paint in the upper right quadrant. In raking light a few very fine and stable hairline surface cracks are visible to the thicker protrusions of media throughout. The length of the vertical crack previously mentioned has been retouched and there are further tiny spots of reotuching to the left of the crack on the upper extreme edge.
