Condition

he canvas has been relined. There are stretcher marks to all borders and craquelure throughout, underneath a discoloured varnish. Chips to the edges of the paint are visible along the upper and lower edges. Also some old restored tears, including one to the centre left edge (approx. 3in.), one to the centre right (1in.) and one to the upper centre sky area (1in.). Ultraviolet light reveals some scattered spots of retouching to sky, foreground and elsewhere, underneath an opaque varnish. Held in a slightly worn painted wooden frame.
