- Portraits of Thomas Mosely (d. 14 Feb 1754) and his wife, Mrs Sarah Mosely (d. 1745)
- a pair, one bears the identity of the sitter on the stretcher
- oil on canvas, unframed
- each 128x104cm.; 50½x41in.
Condition
Both canvases relined, both slightly dirty. Minor losses to extreme edges of original canvas. Craquelure visible to both throughout.
Portrait of Mrs Mosely: Minor paint loss lower right. One or two surface scratches in upper section of background. Ultra-violet light reveals infilling of craquelure to face and retouching to lower left section and edges and uneven varnish.
Portrait of Mr. Mosely: Minor area of paint loss to background centre right and minor surface scratches to left edge and towards lower edge. Minor paint separation in areas. Ultra-violet light scattered areas of minor retouching, mainly to background and uneven varnish.
