Condition
The lacquered paint covering the figure is well crackled overall. A flake to the painting of approximatively 2 cm in the middle of his forehead, another one by 1 cm to his nose, and some flakes showing on his sleeves as well as on the reverse. The wood is cracked horizontally across his right knee on approximatively 30 cm (showing on the illustration in the catalogue) the crack extending perpendicularly across his ankle on further 9 cm. There is a radiant crack to the wood at the reverse of the figure extending acroos both his shoulders. Looking beneath: the torso of the figure is made out of a single trunk, the foldings of his robe hanging in front is made of another section which cracked vertically with crack showing under the figure but repaired on the visible side.
Provenance:
By repute, the figure was acquired by the owner in 1987 at the sale of the furnishing of the Chateau Smith in Nice, otherwise called the "Chateau Rose" or "Chateau de l'anglais" prior tho its convertion into residential appartments.
