Description
Condition
The book cover was originally gilded with traces of the old gilding still showing on the carved decoration. There is a recent chip to the wood approximately approximately five cm at one of the corner on the reverse, and four small holes, probably for hanging. There may be some restorations to both right and left sides of the upper frieze. Some small losses and sections of wood missing on the right edge, and on the rims of the frieze. The carving shows an overall wear consistent with its age. Beside the traces of gilding and old lacquer there are traces of red pigment on the crown of the Prajnaparamita, some of the buddhas, the mystical beasts in the central panel and in the lower part of the frieze.
