Condition
in fair condition; colors are vibrant and image is crisp, but paper is faded, thin and somewhat brittle; both left corners have torn away; scattered tiny tears, nicks, holes along the edges in the margin (margin ranges from 1-2 in. around image); scattered creases/crinkling of the paper (because of its thinness)--appears to have been that way when the artist painted work, as the strokes of pigment continue over them; a few losses/tiny holes at lower left (under bird's tail) along a vertical crease; some soiling to surface: dust/grime has pooled slightly on several of the creases, a few scattered stray marks, light stains; sheet sits on backing--no adhesives

Catalogue Note
The word Incomplete in the title refers to the fact that Graves considered this work as an earlier version of the completed work of the same title and year, now in the collection of the Metropolitain Museum of Art. This work will be accompanied by photocopies of letters from Betty Bayley Willis and previous owners Charles and Miriam Lindstrom referring to it and to Morris Graves.
