A Zuni Polychrome Jar

circa 1865, with concave base, rounded shoulder and encircling groove beneath the tapering neck, elegantly painted in sienna and dark brown against a white slip, with a narrow frieze enclosing stylized birds at the mid-section, classic scrolling devices with very fine cross-hatching above and below, surmounted by cleaved panels with stylized dagger motifs beneath the darkened rim.
