Description

  • DJAMBALULA
  • NAMARRKON - THE LIGHTNING MAN
  • Natural earth pigments on eucalyptus bark
  • 81 by 53 cm

Provenance

Painted circa 1958, most probably at Minjilang (Croker Island), western Arnhem Land
Molloy Tribal Art, New York
Private collection

Condition

The painting has suffered considerable pigment loss over much of the surface, which should be visible in the illustration. The bark itself has many areas where the bark has been worn or peeled away. The painting is housed behind glass in a contemporary white wooden frame, on a white background. The pigments and bark that are extant appear to be in a relatively stable condition.
