Catalogue Note

Rosecliff Mansion, Newport, Rhode Island was built in 1898 for Mrs. Hermann Oelrichs and is considered one of the most refined and classical mansions -- the so-called 'Cottages' -- in Newport. Designed by the Architect Stanford White, it was modeled on the Grand Trianon at Versailles.

The quality of the present lot is excellent and is comparable to a similar gueridon by Théodore Millet, sold Christie's, London, September 29, 2005, lot 178.
