Catalogue Note
The arms are those of Johann Wolfgang Ignaz (died 1727 or 1728), Freeman (since 1682) of Neuhaus in Greifenfels and Ehrenfals, and deacon (1703) of the Cathedral church of Regensburg. He was a priest (1693-1717) and council minister of the Kurfürsten of Cologne and Bavaria and of the Bishops of Regensburg.
The view of Donaustauf comes from an engraving by Matthaeus Merian in the Topographia Bavariæ, 1644 (pl.58, S.134).
Compare with the almost identical armorial flask in the collection of the Bayerischen Nationalmuseum in Munich (Rainer Rückert, catalogue, Vol.II, p.216, no.607 and pl.183) of which the present lot may be the companion piece.
