the drawn trumpet bowl decorated with a view of sailing vessels on the River Thames, St. Paul's Cathedral and the Tower of London in the background, the stem cut with three graduated rows of arched flutes and gilt ovals, the conical foot with gilt petal flutes

Catalogue Note

A few German glasses with views of cities are recorded including a Silesian goblet engraved with a view of London illustrated by Dan Klein and Ward Lloyd (ed.), A History of Glass, p.116. The view of London is thought to be based on a printed engraving by Thomas Bowles, 1748.
