Description

  • 11.9cm., 4 5/8 in.
the waisted cylindrical form painted with a gilt titled view Dedié à sa Majesté Imp. et Roy Lepoldine Princesse d'Autriche et à sa Majesté Roy, le Prince heretier de Brésil et de Portugal, within an amber-stained rectangular panel gilt with foliate decoration, the reverse with border of stylised gilt flowerheads below the gilt-edged rim, the cogwheel foot heightened in gilding and with part amber-stained star-cut base

Condition

small flat chip to the underside of the base (0.4cm x 0.5cm) and some typical rubbing to gilding of rim, otherwise in good condition

Catalogue Note

Rudolf von Strasser, op.cit., p.73, makes reference to his knowledge of this glass which probably celebrates the marriage in 1817 of  the Austrian Archduchess Carolina Josef-Leopoldina (1797-1826) with Emperor Don Pedro I of Brazil (1794-1834).
