Description

  • 12cm., 4¾in.
the waisted cylindrical form painted with a gilt titled view of Die Schloß-Kirche St. Veit gegen Morgen, within an amber-stained rectangular panel with gilt formal leaves, the reverse with arcaded and palmette border below the gilt-edged rim, above a narrow amber-stained band with meandering gilt vine tendril, over a cogwheel foot and part amber-stained star-cut base

Condition

The gilding is rubbed on the rim, particularly on the top edge where there is an extremely minor pinhead chip to the front edge on the front, and on the edges of the cut flutes; otherwise generally in good condition

A further example inscribed Die Schlosskirche zu St. Veit gegen Morgen, from the collection of the Dukes of Auersperg, Vienna, was shown at the 'Ausstellung von Gläsern des Klassizismus, der Empire- und Biedermeierzeit', in Vienna in 1922 (no.318).
