Description

  • 12cm.; 4¾in.
the waisted cylindrical form of amber tint, painted with a titled riverscape view of Gallerie durch den Urthelstein im Helenenthale bei Baden within a rectangular panel gilt with formal leaf borders, the remainder and interior filled with gilding, above a cogwheel foot and star-cut base

Condition

Some typical rubbing to the gilding, especially on the interior. Otherwise generally in good condition

A beaker decorated with the same view is illustrated by Rudolf von Strasser, Die Einschreibebüchlein des Wiener Glas- und Porzellanmalers Anton Kothgasser (1769-1851), p.26, fig.13 (Österreichisches Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna). Von Strasser illustrates a painted view of the same scene taken from a series of views of Vienna and its environs in the archive of the Vienna porcelain factory, op.cit., p.26, fig.14.
