These jardinières are copies of a model probably made by William Trotter of Edinburgh, circa 1815, for the Marquess of Tweeddale at Yester House; see F. Bamford, A Dictionary of Edinburgh Wrights and Furniture Makers 1660-1840, 1983, pl. 73. A similar pair was sold in these rooms, October 11, 1996, lot 291 ($12,000); another pair was sold in these rooms, October 21-22, 2004, lot 269 ($13,000).
