Condition

The canvas is original. There is a stretcher mark to the upper edge. There is a small indentation to the centre of the upper right quarter and a further tiny indent to the right of this one. Otherwise in good overall condition. Unframed.

Catalogue Note

Born in India, Barnes was educated at Eton and after serving with the RAF during the First World War, he became well known as a journalist and during the 1930s he was a Reuters correspondent in India and Africa.  His grandfather was Sir John Strachey, acting Viceroy and Governor General of India (1872).
