Description

- 68.5x51cm.; 27x20in.
Condition
The canvas is original. There is some evidence of wear around the extreme edges. There is a slight stretcher line running along the upper edge. Slight canvas undulations are visible to the upper left and right corners and to the lower left corner. There is a faint network of cracking lines to the red pigment of the figure's dress and to the white pigment behind her. There is a short line of white pigment staining (approx 2cm) towards the top of the right edge. A further short line of red pigment staining is visible to the centre of the lower edge (2cm approx). Significant surface dirt; the work would therefore benefit from a light professional clean. Under ultra violet light a line of transparent pigment which may be a surface varnish appears to fluoresce across the boy's head. There are a few other strokes of pigment around the figures which fluoresce, though these do not appear to be retouchings. Unframed.
