Description
- Stanley William Hayter
- Untitled
- signed and dated 48
- oil on board
- 51 by 60cm., 20 by 23 1/2 in.
Provenance
Dolan Maxwell, New York
Condition
The board appears to be in good sound condition.
The work has suffered a slight impact damage to the extreme upper left hand corner resulting in a tiny scratch, chip and hairline crack across the tip of the corner. There is also an old 5in. vertical scratch running from the top edge near the upper right corner. Three tiny losses (max. 0.5 by 0.2cm.) are visible at the upper edge, just to left of centre, with two or three further minute 'pinhead' losses scattered elsewhere. However, the paint surface does appear to be entirely sound and stable overall.
Inspection under UV light reveals some possible light retouching to minor scuffs at the extreme corners of the work and at the upper left edge.
Presented unglazed in a light wood box frame in good condition. The work may benefit however from re-presentation.
