Description

  • Kenneth Armitage CBE, RA
  • Two Figures Against a Wall
  • signed with initials, numbered 4/4 and dated 1972

  • bronze with a dark brown patina
  • height 38cm., 15in.

Provenance

Joseph Wolpe Fine Art, Cape Town, whence purchased by the present owner, September 1975

Condition

A tiny spot (0.3cm. diameter) of 'exposed' bronze behind the foot of the right-hand figure may have occurred during the patination process. Various minute specks of verdigris are scattered over the piece and there is some slight surface bloom visible on the shoulder of the left-hand figure, between his fingers and where the central 'arm' meets the right-hand figure. The work may therefore benefit from a light professional clean and wax, but it otherwise in very good sound condition.

Catalogue Note

The present work is identical in size and composition to Two Figures with Drawing (1972, KA200) although it appears to belong to an unlisted bronze edition of the piece from the same date.
